The City of Alexandria is facing flooding as the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby sweep through the region.
The City’s Rain Gauge and Stream Flow indicates that Waterfront Park is currently under 3.61 feet of water.
One threat that is now growing is coastal flooding along our shoreline areas. Coastal Flood Advisories and Warnings are in effect for today and Saturday.
Many spots currently are seeing minor to moderate coastal flooding. Avoid these areas as many roads are being closed! https://t.co/WeCwWEhITm

The Art League noted that “due to late-breaking uncontrolled dampness on Union Street” the Art League’s gallery, store and offices would be closed today.
Flooding was also reported elsewhere in the city. The intersection of E. Braddock Road and N. West Street is particularly prone to flooding and footage shared by Twitter account DrainALX showed flooding this morning.

The National Weather Service said scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue tonight before clearing up into a mostly sunny Saturday.
While Alexandria has made improvements to its stormwater infrastructure in recent years, some of the major projects are still a few years away from completion.
