While today and possibly tomorrow are likely to be mostly sunny, the National Weather Service warned that starting Tuesday afternoon, Alexandrians can expect rain every day through Saturday.

The rain prediction comes as tropical storm Debby makes landfall in Florida.

The National Weather Service said the chance of showers and thunderstorms starts around 2 p.m. tomorrow, becoming more likely with the onset of night. By Wednesday, there’s a 70% chance of thunderstorms with between a tenth and quarter of an inch of rainfall expected.

The forecast for this week says the storms could continue through Friday night and into Saturday, with a 40% chance of precipitation on Saturday, finally clearing up on Sunday.

The rain could help alleviate the drought conditions that have affected Virginia. If the storm does hit Alexandria, it could also be a stress test for some of the city’s newer stormwater infrastructure improvements. Some of the biggest projects are still in the pipeline.
