UPDATE: Power restored after Old Town outage affecting nearly 2,000 residents

UPDATE at 5 p.m. — As of Thursday evening, Dominion Energy’s outage map is no longer showing outages in Old Town.

Nearly 2,000 residents and businesses in Old Town were without power after an outage was reported just after 10 a.m. today (Thursday).

The main outage took up an area of Old Town from S. Fayette Street to the George Washington Masonic National Memorial (101 Callahan Drive). Danielle Romanetti, owner of fibre space, reported hearing three loud explosions, followed by the power outage.

According to scanner traffic, three transformers went out in the area of King and N. West Street. Multiple power lines were reported to be down on Prince Street.

Dominion Energy’s online outage map says that 1,998 customers are affected, and that the cause is “pending investigation.”

Restoration was estimated to happen between 2-5 p.m.

Alexandria Police said traffic signals were out at some intersections due to the power outages, and officers were directing traffic at some intersections. Drivers were asked to treat intersections with traffic signal outages as four-way stops.
