Alexandria city offices, public schools closing Monday for George Washington Day

Alexandria government offices, libraries and public schools are closing Monday to observe Presidents Day, otherwise known in Virginia as George Washington Day.

Across the city, some services will close or operate on modified schedules in observance of the first president’s birthday. Trash, recycling and yard waste collection will be delayed one day next week, but curbside food waste collection will remain on-schedule.

Metered parking and residential permit parking districts will not be enforced for the day — but temporary no-parking signs and prohibited parking locations will remain in effect.

More details on the city’s schedule of services are available below.

  • DASH will operate on a weekend schedule, with service suspended on Lines 102, 103 and 104. Administrative offices will be closed. Service will resume Tuesday

Network maintenance planned

Also Monday, the City of Alexandria “will perform planned network maintenance that will temporarily create service outages for various City online services,” according to an announcement.

The maintenance is expected to begin at 6:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. Public safety services and 911 will not be impacted, the city said.
