Sheriff’s Office accepting applications for four-week ‘Community Academy’ program

Sheriff Sean Casey is inviting residents to the city courthouse and jail to learn about the inner workings of the Sheriff’s Office.

Applications are currently being accepted for the spring session of the Sheriff’s Community Academy. The free sessions run on four consecutive Saturdays from March 7-28, teaching residents about jail operations, inmate services, judicial operations and more. The application deadline to participate is Feb. 27.

“In addition to classroom learning, attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look with tours of the Adult Detention Center and the Alexandria Courthouse, along with engaging in hands-on activities,” according to ASO.

The program is also held in the fall. Anyone with questions can contact ASO Lieutenant Victor Ignacio at [email protected] or 703-746-5013.

Incidentally, there are other academies in the city. The deadline to participate in the one-day Commonwealth’s Attorney Academy is March 18, and that program takes place on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the courthouse at 520 King Street.
