Sheriff Sean Casey is inviting residents to the city courthouse and jail to learn about the inner workings of the Sheriff’s Office.
Applications are currently being accepted for the spring session of the Sheriff’s Community Academy. The free sessions run on four consecutive Saturdays from March 7-28, teaching residents about jail operations, inmate services, judicial operations and more. The application deadline to participate is Feb. 27.
Alexandria’s top prosecutor is declining to bring criminal charges against officers involved in the Alexandria Police Department’s in-custody death of a Woodbridge man last summer.
Officers involved in the Aug. 15, 2025 death of Allan F. Tucker, II, will not be charged, Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter announced this afternoon (Thursday), following investigations by the medical examiner and Northern Virginia’s Critical Incident Review Team.

Police found the victims with gunshot wounds shortly after being called at around 9 p.m. They were transported to area hospitals, and no arrests have been announced. Witnesses heard a barrage of gunfire, and the Alexandria Police Department is asking for help in the investigation.
A woman is safe after allegedly being abducted and assaulted by a naked man along the Mount Vernon Trail in Old Town North earlier this month.
“The suspect pinned both of her forearms down and she fought to break free,” police said a recently released search warrant affidavit. “(The victim) said she realized the suspect was fully naked when he was on top of her and she saw his penis. (The victim) tried to push him away specifically with her right hand to the suspect’s left arm. (The victim) said she yelled and the suspect covered her mouth with his hand. The suspect told her, ‘Do you want to die?'”
After leaving the Alexandria Detention Center, Mahogany Jones wants to be a nurse aide.
On Tuesday, the 20-year-old mother of two joined her fellow inmates for the annual resource fair in the jail gymnasium. Jones is set to be released at the end of July for a felony shoplifting charge, and says she never wants to come back.
A 27-year-old Alexandria man is out on bond after being arrested for the attempted aggravated sexual battery of an incapacitated woman during a Thanksgiving party.
The party was held on Thanksgiving (Nov. 28) in an apartment in the 5600 block of Derby Court.
