Police investigating after moped stolen from impound lot listed for sale on Facebook

A moped that was stolen from Alexandria’s impound lot in November was later listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace, prompting an Alexandria Police Department investigation.

An employee at the impound lot at 5249 Eisenhower Avenue had received a call from an unknown person that the moped, stolen Nov. 10, was listed on Facebook Marketplace, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

Afterward, the employee “checked the lot and discovered the moped was missing,” and a large hole had been cut in the lot’s chain link fence in the northeast corner. The vehicle, a black Fengyuan BWS, was previously parked in the lot’s northwest corner after being towed from the 1000 block of Main Line Blvd on Oct. 16 for lacking registration.

Suspect(s) gained entry to the impound lot by cutting the hole in the fence, according to the affidavit.

No arrests have been made in connection to this incident, which remains under investigation.
