APD: Driver who crashed into Seminary Hill fence was going to hospital after accidental shooting

A man who crashed into a fence in Seminary Hill yesterday (Wednesday) was driving himself to the hospital after an accidental shooting, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The driver sustained a non-life threatening injury during the incident, which occurred at around 3:30 p.m. near the 4500 block of Seminary Road, APD said in a Facebook post.

“The driver sustained an apparent accidental gunshot wound and was attempting to drive himself to the hospital,” APD wrote. “The incident is under investigation.”

ALXnow has reached out to APD for more information on this incident.

There have been a number of accidental gunshot wounds in Alexandria over the last two months. Last month, a man was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in the leg in Seminary Hill.

In November, a man shot himself in the thigh in Old Town. The wound was “frequently consistent with a self-inflicted wound sustained by the individual attempting to place a firearm back into or out of their waistband,” according to APD.

Also in November, a man shot himself in the leg while putting a firearm in his pocket in Eisenhower West.
