A 27-year-old Fairfax County man is being held without bond and heads to court this month for allegedly robbing a convenience store in Alexandria West.
Darion Hughes, of Annandale, was arrested more than a month after the Oct. 12 incident, which occurred at a store in the 6100 block of Lincolnia Road. The victim told police that a man in a dark red hoodie, tan pants and black shoes, walked behind the counter.
When told that he couldn’t be back there, the suspect allegedly flashed a knife and threatened the clerk with bodily injury, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.
“The suspect was not wearing gloves,” according to the affidavit. “The suspect then took multiple packs of cigarettes and lighters and fled the store.”
The Alexandria Police Department collected fingerprint and swab samples. On Oct. 23, an APD officer encountered Hughes at a fast food restaurant in the 6300 block of Little River Turnpike, which is a half-mile from where the convenience store robbery was committed.
Hughes said he didn’t know about the robbery and denied being involved in it, according to the affidavit.
On Nov. 8, the clerk at the convenience store identified Hughes in a photo lineup. Hughes was arrested Nov. 13, and his preliminary hearing is Dec. 8.
Robbery using force is a Class 5 felony, punishable by one to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.
According to court records, Hughes was previously convicted of the following offenses in Fairfax County:
