As of 4 p.m. today (Tuesday), about 53.4% of registered voters in Alexandria had cast ballots in the general election, according to the city’s top elections official.
That number includes early voters, by-mail voters and some 24,134 people — about 23.9% of the city’s registered voters — who turned out to Alexandria’s precincts since 6 a.m. today (Tuesday), Director of Elections Angie Maniglia-Turner told ALXnow this afternoon.
“What we’re hearing is it’s been a steady day,” Maniglia-Turner said. “No long lines, but everyone’s in good spirits, and [there’s] a steady stream of voters.”
At noon, Election Day turnout numbers reached about 16% of the city’s total registered voters at 15,867 ballots.
During Virginia’s last gubernatorial election in 2021, early voters and mail-in ballots accounted for roughly half of the city’s turnout, which rose just above 60%.
“If we were to stay comparable to the 2021 gubernatorial, then we would be about another 30% citywide on Election Day,” Maniglia-Turner said.
Among the city’s 32 precincts, the most active have been Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School and the city’s largest precinct, the Mount Vernon Rec Center.
These venues have reported about 25% and 23.5% turnout, respectively, Maniglia-Turner said.
The Mount Vernon Rec Center accounts for 4,516 voters, while the elementary school accounts for 2,576 voters.
