The stirring sound of bagpipes and drums will fill the air at Market Square this summer as the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums presents their annual Summer Concert Series. The free performances are scheduled for Thursday, July 10, and Thursday, August 7, from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. at Market Square (301 King Street).

For more than five decades, the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums has been mesmerizing audiences with their unique blend of precision marching and powerful musical arrangements deeply rooted in Scottish heritage. The ensemble’s performances promise to deliver an unforgettable experience as the distinctive sounds of traditional bagpipes and drums echo through the historic streets of Old Town Alexandria, creating an atmosphere of both energy and community spirit.

The summer concert series offers more than just musical entertainment. Following each performance, audience members will have the opportunity to meet the band members, take photographs, and learn about what it takes to become part of this storied musical tradition. This interactive element provides a unique chance for community members to connect with the performers and potentially discover their interest in joining the group.

The events are free and welcome attendees of all ages, making them perfect for families looking for quality entertainment in the city center. Organizers encourage residents and visitors alike to bring friends and family to enjoy live music in one of Alexandria’s most charming historic settings.

The concert series is presented by the Office of Historic Alexandria, which operates eight museums, historic sites, archives, and public programs throughout the city. The office is dedicated to preserving and sharing Alexandria’s rich history while enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors through storytelling and community engagement initiatives.
