The Alexandria Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in investigating multiple indecent exposure incidents that have occurred during early morning hours across three Alexandria neighborhoods.
The investigation appears to be connected to incidents ALXnow previously reported on June 25, when two indecent exposures occurred approximately half a mile apart in Rosemont during the early morning hours.
The incidents have taken place in Del Ray, Rosemont, and North Ridge, with police reporting that in each case, a man has exposed himself in public. Authorities emphasize that there have been no reports of physical contact or attempted assault in connection with these incidents.
Detectives believe the same suspect is responsible for all reported cases. The individual is described as a Black male between 5’8″ and 6’1″ with a muscular or heavy build. Police acknowledge the limited description and are relying heavily on community cooperation to help identify the suspect.
“We are asking for the public’s help in reviewing video footage, remaining alert, and reporting any information that could assist in identifying the individual,” police stated in the release.
The department is encouraging community members to check both personal and business surveillance footage for any relevant material. Detectives are actively conducting witness interviews and searching for surveillance footage from nearby buildings and public transit systems.
This follows a pattern of similar incidents in the area. In June, ALXnow reported on two indecent exposures that occurred within 15 minutes of each other in Rosemont, with a suspect described as a Black male with a muscular build between 5’7″ and 5’9″ wearing a black hoodie and white shorts. The suspect’s description in the current investigation, a Black male between 5’8″ and 6’1″ with a muscular or heavy build, appears consistent with the earlier incidents.
Police also noted that several years ago, the Alexandria Police Department investigated 10 to 11 indecent exposure incidents in nearby Del Ray, though no arrest was ever announced in connection with those cases.
In response to the incidents, Alexandria Police have increased marked patrols in the affected neighborhoods. Officers are also engaging directly with local residents and businesses to raise awareness and encourage the sharing of information.
Police are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity or has relevant footage to call 911 immediately. Authorities say specific details that could help identify the suspect include clothing descriptions, height, build, hairstyle, facial hair, distinguishing features, items carried, and direction of travel.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, with detectives following all available leads.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Alexandria Police Detective Vanderah at 703-746-6678. Police remind residents to stay alert, check their surroundings, and help keep the community safe.
