More than 8,800 Dominion Energy customers currently without power in Alexandria

More than 8,800 Dominion Energy customers in Alexandria are experiencing a power outage Thursday (June 19).

The outage comes following a severe thunderstorm that hit the area just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, bringing heavy rain and high winds to the area.

According to Dominion Energy’s outage map, 8,894 of Dominion Energy’s 70,325 customers in Alexandria are currently without power. Dominion Energy is assessing the situation and does not yet offer an estimated time of restoration.

The Alexandria Police are warning on social media about traffic light power outages across the city.

Currently there are many traffic light outages & downed trees & power lines in the city. Please treat intersections as a 4way stop. Note: N Howard is closed between Seminary & W Braddock impacting entry to the hospital. Use alternate route & proceed with caution.
