The National Weather Service is warning Alexandria and nearby areas about possible flash flooding and severe thunderstorms this weekend.
A Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through late tonight, covering Washington, D.C., and parts of Maryland and Virginia, including Alexandria.
Friday’s forecast shows a 30% chance of rain, mainly after 5 p.m., with a high of 81°F. The evening brings a 90% chance of rain, with thunderstorms expected before 2 a.m., followed by likely showers. Some storms could dump between 1 and 2 inches of rain.
Saturday looks wet, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Expect a high near 73°F, with west winds of 11 to 14 mph gusting up to 24 mph.
Sunday’s forecast is brighter, with sunny skies and a high near 74°F. West winds will be 8 to 10 mph, gusting up to 20 mph.
The NWS advises residents to stay tuned to forecasts and be ready to act if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.
