Alexandria is bracing for possible coastal flooding, with water levels expected to rise up to one and a half feet above ground in some low-lying areas.
The National Weather Service in Baltimore, MD/Washington, DC has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for the city. The advisory starts at 12:25 a.m. on Wednesday (May 14) and runs until 3 p.m. on the same day.
Tidal flooding is likely to affect Alexandria’s shoreline and parts of neighboring Arlington County. The highest impact is expected around high tide times. The next high tides in Alexandria are at 10:14 p.m. on Tuesday (May 13) and 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday (May 14).
According to the NWS, the main effects will be “Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.” Residents and visitors should be ready for tides one to one and a half feet higher than normal. While major road closures aren’t likely, it’s smart to be careful in areas that tend to flood.
