Hungry? A fantastic burger might help, especially from one of the Alexandria restaurants included in Northern Virginia Magazine’s April list of the 25 tastiest burgers in the region.

District Biscuit (3401 Mount Vernon Avenue) made the list for its biscuit burger, described online as a “custom-blended Allen Brothers patty sits between layers of an airy square biscuit that absorbs every tantalizing drop of juice, along with housemade hollandaise sauce and pickles.”

“It’s an honor to make the list,” District Biscuit owner Alex Rosenberg told us. “Our biscuit burger takes comfort food to the next level. I’m looking forward to getting out and trying the other local favorites.”

He won’t have to travel far because just down the street, Holy Cow Del Ray (2312 Mount Vernon Avenue) was recognized for its signature burger, The Hot Mess, described by the restaurant as “Angus beef topped with smoked gouda, bacon, crispy onions, mac & cheese, sriracha aioli on a toasted brioche.”

“There are hundreds of restaurants in the DC area with great burgers that could be included here,” Holy Cow owner Bill Blackburn said. “These type of lists are usually dominated by who is the newest or groups who have good media people. Our inclusion is because of our chef Russ Wiggins and the Holy Cow staff who have continued to put out a consistent quality burger for close to 15 years.”

Bun Papa‘s (3648 King Street) “Bun Papa Classic” was also listed.

“We’re honored, we’re thrilled, and we’re going to keep making the World’s Best buns and putting the best stuff in ‘em,” Bun Papa co-owner Markos Panas said.

According to Northern Virginia Magazine:

“Classic” is indeed the operative word when it comes to this burger. Lightly sweet, pillowy brioche buns are the centerpiece of every burger here. It almost doesn’t matter what goes on it, but when it’s two grill-seared patties, melted cheddar and housemade dill pickles, all the better. Mayo, ketchup and fresh lettuce complete the package.

Are you not into meat? The magazine includes the B.I.G. Burger at Plnt Burger (1700 Duke Street) as a stellar meat-adjacent option. The extra-large veggie burger also has faux American cheese.
