Notes: Alexandria to host Economic Summit on May 8

The City of Alexandria and Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP) are gearing up to host an Economic Summit on Thursday, May 8. This event will take a deep dive into the city’s economic health and what lies ahead.

The summit, which will run from 3 to 7 p.m., aims to spark a community conversation about adapting to the changing regional economy. Participants will learn about national and regional economic trends, learn about Alexandria’s approach to economic development, and explore the city’s potential challenges and opportunities. The summit will also unveil initial findings from a consulting team, based on early roundtables and community input.

What Else You Need To Know

On this day in 1925, Alexandria received national attention for its efforts to ensure the vaccination of dogs against canine distemper and rabies.

According to the city, “The development of pet vaccines had only begun a couple of years earlier and few municipalities had yet accepted that responsibility. But with a large number of dogs in the city, many roaming freely, officials acted quickly to curb a potential public health menace”.

Jessica D. Aber, who served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found dead at her home in Alexandria on Saturday. She was 43. Read More
