Alexandria asks waterfront visitors not to touch or collect collision wreckage

The City of Alexandria is asking residents and visitors that spot wreckage from the mid-air collision last night near National Airport not to touch it.

“We understand the curiosity and concerns residents may have,” the City of Alexandria said. “We strongly encourage visitors to the waterfront to not touch or collect anything you believe may be related to this incident.”

Debris from the river often floats into Old Town’s bays and inlets, and the City said that there is likely to be an increase in traffic as investigators search for debris related to the crash.

“Due to the ongoing recovery efforts in the aftermath of the tragic crash at Reagan National Airport, there will be a significant increase in traffic along the waterfront and potential debris in the area,” the release said.

The City said anyone who does find wreckage on the waterfront should call 911 and report the location immediately.
