It’s expected that there were no survivors of a midair collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and an Army helicopter.

The American Airlines flight from Wichita, Kansas, was carrying 64 people while the Army helicopter on a training flight was carrying three soldiers.

The crash occurred around 8:50 p.m. last night. First responders worked in dangerous conditions last night to try to recover victims.

D.C. Fire and EMS Chief John A. Donnelly said in a new briefing earlier this morning that so far 27 victims have been recovered from the plane and one from the helicopter.
