Alexandria Police Lieutenant honored in MLK celebration for charity work

At a celebration of civic service yesterday, City Manager Jim Parajon recognized Alexandria Police Patrol Lieutenant Marcus Downey for his work volunteering with non-profits in the city.

According to a release from the Alexandria Police Department, Downey received the City of Alexandria MLK Spirit Award for “setting a powerful example of servant leadership.”

“Lt. Downey continues to identify and encourage officers to make a difference beyond traditional police work by volunteering to distribute food with ALIVE!, feeding those in need with Meade Church, preparing and serving dinner at the Alexandria Community Shelter and regularly delivering Meals on Wheels,” the release said. “His actions inspire the next generation of officers to adopt values of compassion, service, and civic responsibility, creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.
