It’s about to get really cold in Alexandria.

Hazardous freezing temperatures are expected tonight and Wednesday morning, with wind chills “near zero degrees,” according to the National Weather Service.

NWS issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Alexandria and the surrounding area today and Wednesday.

“Hazardous cold is possible through early Wednesday morning when a combination of wind and well-below normal temperatures may result in wind chills near zero degrees,” NWS said.

Alexandria’s winter shelter at 2355-A Mill Road is open 24/7 until Jan. 17, according to the city.

The most widespread cold temperatures and wind chills are expected early Wednesday morning,” the city said in an extreme cold weather alert on X.

NWS predicts temperatures to warm up on Thursday, with a high of 34 degrees and a low of 24 degrees, followed by a high temperature of 41 degrees and low of 31 degrees on Friday. There’s also a slight winter storm threat on Sunday afternoon through Monday.
