Arrest made after man shot multiple times in Old Town

A 32-year-old man was shot multiple times in Old Town Sunday night, and soon afterward the Alexandria Police Department arrested a person of interest and found a handgun hidden in bushes.

APD was called just after 8 p.m. for the report of a man shot multiple times in the area of the Ladrey Senior Hi-Rise at 300 Wythe Street.

It is not yet clear if the incident occurred inside or outside the building, but the victim was able to get through the lobby area, to the elevator and up to an apartment on the 11th floor, according to APD dispatch reports.

The victim was shot in the abdomen, the ear, and possibly the forehead, according to dispatch. He was transported with “serious injuries” to George Washington University Hospital.

The suspect was located a block away near the intersection of Pendleton and N. Royal Streets, and a gun was found in bushes in the 500 block of Pendleton Street.

APD put out the following statement after the incident:

APD is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 300 block of Wythe Street. A man suffered a gunshot wound and was transported with serious injury. A person of interest is in custody. Please avoid the area while detectives investigate.
