Alexandria’s Traffic and Parking Board has recommended that Alexandria move forward with the temporary closure of the 200 block of King Street, Patch reported.

The proposal would kick off the first phase of the closure from Nov. 22 and run through Jan. 6, Patch reported. The next phase would run from spring through early January 2026, with space between the closures to make adjustments.

“A potential 200-block closure would require the same careful analysis of deliveries, disabled access, and public safety response that occurred as part of the 100-block closure,” a memo from Mayor Justin Wilson and City Council member John Chapman said. “Yet, the City’s experience in the 100-block has shown that these potential challenges can be addressed reasonably.”

Patch reported the closure would remove 17 parking spaces. The plan will head to City Council for final approval in November.
