
With less than three weeks until election day on Nov. 5, more than 15,000 Alexandria residents have cast early and by-mail ballots, according to the city’s Office of Voter Registration and Elections.
On the ballot this year are nominees for president and vice president, U.S. Senate, Congress, Alexandria’s mayor, City Council and School Board.
As of Wednesday (Oct 16), there have been 16,377 ballots cast by early voters in Alexandria, according to the city’s election dashboard. Of those ballots, 5,989 were mailed in.
In-person early voting started last month with residents casting ballots at the registrar’s office at 132 N. Royal Street.
Additional early voting locations will soon open around the city at the following locations:
- Charles Beatley, Jr. Central Library (5005 Duke Street) starting Oct. 21 (Monday)
- The Minnie Howard Campus of Alexandria City Public High School (3775 Braddock Road) and George Washington Middle School (1005 Mt Vernon Ave) on Oct. 26 (Saturday), Oct. 27 (Sunday) and Nov. 2 (Sunday)
More than 66,000 Alexandria voters voted by mail in the 2020 election, which was conducted during the pandemic. The election was a Democratic blowout in Alexandria, with President Joe Biden getting 66,240 votes against the 14,544 votes for former President Donald Trump. Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Warner and Rep. Don Beyer also won in all of Alexandria’s precincts.
