Early voting starts next week in Alexandria.
There are a number of voting options for those who can’t wait or make it to vote in-person at their home precinct on election day Nov. 5.
In-person early voting for the elections starts on Friday, Sept. 20, and residents must vote at the city’s Office of Voter Registration and Elections (132 N. Royal Street).
The registrar’s office has already received more than 9,600 applications from residents who want to vote by mail, and ballots will also be mailed out on Sept. 20, according to the city’s Registrar and Director of Elections Angie Turner.
On the ballot this year are nominees for president and vice president, U.S. Senate, Congress, Alexandria’s mayor, City Council and School Board.
Additional early voting locations will be opening around the city at the following locations next month.
- Charles Beatley, Jr. Central Library (5005 Duke Street) starting Oct. 21 (Monday)
- The Minnie Howard Campus of Alexandria City Public High School (3775 Braddock Road) and George Washington Middle School (1005 Mt Vernon Ave) on Oct. 26 (Saturday), Oct. 27 (Sunday) and Nov. 2 (Sunday)
More than 66,000 Alexandria voters cast their ballots by mail in the 2020 election, which was conducted amid the coronavirus pandemic. That election was a Democratic blowout in Alexandria, with President Joe Biden receiving 66,240 votes to former President Donald Trump getting 14,544 votes. Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Warner and Rep. Don Beyer (D-8th) also won in all of Alexandria’s precincts in that election.
