If you get a text about payment of outstanding toll charges, there’s a good chance it’s a scam.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is asking drivers to be on alert for a text message scam requesting payment of outstanding toll charges.
“If you receive a text message that appears to be from E-ZPass Virginia or a specific toll facility in Virginia, contact Customer Service to validate,” VDOT said in a post. “Those who believe they received a smishing text about tolls due can file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov and include the phone number of the text message as well as the web link listed within the text.”
