Think about getting comfortable, because there’s a silent reading party happening in Old Town North later this month.

The realm of the imagination is the destination for participants in the latest venture between Old Town Books (130 S. Royal Street) and Hotel AKA Alexandria (625 First Street). From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 24, you can finally get the peace and quiet needed to move the bookmark along and find out who did the deed in that Agatha Christie murder mystery.

Old Town Books owner Ally Kirkpatrick was inspired after a one-night stay at the hotel.

“Mom to three small kids and a small business owner, I found myself on the edge of end-of-school year burnout,” Kirkpatrick wrote on her blog. “Unfortunately, my number one coping mechanism, reading, just wasn’t working anymore. I tried and failed to break into a new book, but all I could do was scroll on my phone. For a bookworm like me, losing touch with my main way to relax and refocus? It was a crisis!”

Kirkpatrick said that the hotel’s modern aesthetic, including “a swanky bar, a rooftop patio, cute cafe,” provides a great background for reading.

The price to participate is $5, and Kirkpatrick said first dibs will be given to her newsletter subscribers.

Hotel AKA Alexandria is advertising the event as a reading retreat, and is offering guests a $50 gift card to Old Town Books.

“To elevate your experience, enjoy a unique literary-inspired mocktail or cocktail from a.lounge, specially crafted to enhance your reading experience,” Hotel AKA Alexandria said on its website. “Delight in perfect spaces to immerse yourself in a book, whether it’s with a steaming cup of coffee at a.Cafe, basking in the sun on our picturesque terrace, enjoying a beverage at a.lounge, or in the serene comfort of your guest room.”
