Patch reported that a collective bargaining ordinance is in the works for Alexandria’s administrative and clerical workers.
The workers filed for a union election for American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 20. AFSCME Council 20 already represents the labor and trades unit in the city, and now administrative and clerical workers will have a vote on whether or not to have the organization be the exclusive collective bargaining representative to negotiate with the city, Patch reported.
Back in March 2021, Alexandria was the first Virginia locality to allow collective bargaining, and since then Patch reported that the city has had five bargaining units.
