It was the primary in Alexandria and the incumbents running in the City Council race managed to secure the Democratic nomination for City Council.
Incumbents John Chapman, Sarah Bagley, Kirk McPike and Canek Aguirre kept their nominations and were joined by School Board members Abdel Elnoubi and Jacinta Greene.
The Democrat winners will face Republican Celianna Gunderson and Independent candidates Mason Butler and Roy Byrd.
The two openings on the Council came from Council member Alyia Gaskins and Vice Mayor Amy Jackson. Gaskins secured the Democratic nomination for Mayor with 60% of the vote over Jackson and real estate developer Steven Peterson.
