Alexandria City High School art students helped with new mural at the Bradlee Shopping Center

Peace, community involvement and childhood innocence are the themes of the new mural at the Bradlee Shopping Center.

Alexandria City High School art students helped muralists Nicole Bourgea and sef.01 create the mural  depicting three kids surrounded by flowers and childlike drawings. Seven students helped with the design and worked after school last month on the project.

The shopping center sits between ACHS’s King Street and Minnie Howard campuses, and the wall for the project was chosen to inspire kids throughout their school days.

“We picked this wall because it’s highly visible and directly between the two campuses,” Bourgea said.  “Students are coming into the shopping center and passing this wall every day, as well as the customers from the community or parking this parking lot. So this is highly visible and something that will really set the tone for their day as they come here.”

Property manager First Washington Realty hired Bourgea for the project, and she worked with ACHS students for two days to develop the design.

“It was so much fun going back to school,” Bourgea said. “We’re imitating that idea of being a kid and creating something beautiful with whatever implements you can find around you.”
