🚨 You need to know

Virginia Senate President pro tempore Louise Lucas, most famous in Alexandria as the state senator who almost single-handedly torpedoed the Potomac Yard Arena deal, has waded into Alexandria’s City Council election to endorse anti-arena candidate Jonathan Huskey.
While Lucas’ district is in southeast Virginia, she was one of the most influential political leaders in Alexandria over the last year thanks to her dogged opposition to the plan to build a new arena for the Washington Capitals and Wizards and entertainment district in the Potomac Yard neighborhood. That deal officially died in March.
Lucas recently endorsed Huskey, whose campaign was built on opposition to the arena.
According to a statement from Lucas:
I said early on that Governor Youngkin’s GlennDome wasn’t ready for prime time and that it would put the Commonwealth of Virginia at risk. We stopped the arena together with leaders in Alexandria, and now I strongly endorse Jonathan Huskey for Alexandria City Council. He will listen to the community and has the judgment and experience to successfully advocate for Alexandria at home and in Richmond. Jonathan has many years of experience fighting for progressive causes and working families. He was one of the leaders in the fight against the Potomac Yard arena proposal and has a vision to support economic growth that works for all Alexandria residents, not out-of-state billionaires. I hope you’ll vote for Jonathan Huskey in the Democratic Primary.
