Notes: Alexandria considering new dedicate bike lane connecting Duke Street and Eisenhower Avenue

Holland Lane isn’t as flashy as the Duke Street or Eisenhower Avenue that bookend it, but Alexandria still might show the street a little love amid improvements to the two other streets.

Alexandria Transportation & Environmental Services tweeted yesterday that the city is collecting feedback on what could make Holland Lane better.

“Both the adopted Eisenhower East Small Area Plan and the Proposed Bicycle Network in the adopted Alexandria Mobility Plan call for a dedicated bicycle facility on Holland Lane,” the city’s website said. “A bike lane would not only improve safety for people biking, but could create opportunities for enhanced pedestrian crossings and traffic calming as well.”

Earlier this year, the City of Alexandria voted to move forward with a new transitway on Duke Street — though it will be west of where Duke intersects with Holland Lane. Alexandria’s also in the early stages of planning for changes to Eisenhower Avenue.
