(Updated 4:35 p.m.) Police are investigating a child’s death at an apartment building on the 200 block of Yoakum Parkway around 2 p.m. today.
Police Chief Don Hayes said police found a three-year-old boy who fell from one of the upper floors and died.
Witnesses said the infant may have fallen from the window of the apartment building, per scanner traffic.
The Alexandria Police Department said there is a moderate police presence at the scene. Hayes said other people were inside the unit at the time, but would not say the ages of the people in the apartment, how old they are, or their relationship to the child.
“Right now, as you can all imagine, the family is devastated,” Hayes said. “Our condolences go out to the family. We’re here doing our investigation to find out what transpired.”
