The City of Alexandria is looking to implement “smart technology” to help guide traffic flows along the Duke Street and Van Dorn Street corridors, NBC reported.

The smart technology project is scheduled to kick off this year and will continue through 2026.

The smart technology adapts signals to current traffic patterns, retiming them every three-to-five minutes while signals are typically retimed after months or years, NBC reported. The goal is to take roughly 10% off travel time for drivers along the Duke and Van Dorn Street corridors.
