Notes: Alexandria Police stepping up patrols to curb end of school year violence

The Alexandria Police Department is stepping up its presence around areas frequented by Alexandria City Public Schools students as the school year comes to a close.

The goal, Fox5 reported, is to prevent end-of-year tensions from spilling over into violence like the murder of Luis Mejia Hernandez last May.

The Bradlee Shopping Center, in particular, has struggled with brawls and other violent crimes occurring just after school lets out at nearby Alexandria City High School.
