Notes: Duke Street transit overhaul plan heads to City Council later this month

Good Thursday morning, Alexandria!

☀️ Today’s weather: Widespread haze. Widespread smoke, mainly before noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. North wind around 8 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. At night: Widespread haze. Partly cloudy, with a low around 57. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

🚨 You need to know

Alexandria’s Duke Street Transitway Advisory Group has filed its long-awaited recommendations for how to reconfigure transit along Duke Street, Alexandria Living Magazine reported.

The goal, the report said, would be a center-running bus lane throughout the corridor, but the report acknowledge this wasn’t feasible in the short term. As a result, some sections of the transitway will be mixed in with traffic and others will have center-running lanes.

The full breakdown of which sections will include center-running lanes is available at Alexandria Living Magazine, but the gist is that some of the central parts of the corridor will have buses in mixed traffic or with a single eastbound center-running bus lane, while either end of the corridor will have center-running lanes.

Those recommendations are headed to City Council on Tuesday, June 27.
