Discussion panel series Agenda Alexandria is hosting a program on Monday to discuss the rise in gun-related crime in Alexandria.

Over the last year, both serious crimes like homicide and auto theft — called Part I crimes by the FBI — and nuisance crimes like DUI and vandalism — called Part II crimes — have been on the rise.

According to an email from Agenda Alexandria:

The May program of Agenda Alexandria will examine the causes of the uptick in violent crimes, property crimes, and crimes against society, such as drug violations and weapon violations. The program will also explore what public officials and citizens can do to address the causes and make Alexandria a safer city in which to live and work.

Agenda Alexandria Chair Rod Kuckro will moderate a panel of speakers including Alexandria Police Department Chief Don Hayes, former Alexandria Sheriff Dana Lawhorne, Jennifer Rohrbach, whose daughter attends Alexandria City High School and Robert Strange is a Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Alexandria where he supervises the Special Victims Unit, amongst others.

The program is scheduled for Monday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. in The Lyceum (201 S. Washington Street) and is live-streamed.
