(Updated 3 p.m.) The 27-year-old suspect in a West End Shooting on Jan. 15 was “mistakenly released” from the Prince George’s County jail five days after the offense, according to Alexandria Police.

Police released the identity of the suspect, Brian Wordell Morris, who is wanted for allegedly shooting a 22-year-old man three times during a child custody transfer with the suspect’s child.

Updated 4:30 p.m. — The 27-year-old suspect in a West End Shooting on Sunday was released from jail last year after spending more than a year in jail on assault and weapons charges, according to court records.

The 22-year-old male victim was shot multiple times at around 5 p.m. at an apartment building in the 4600 block of Duke Street. The girlfriend of the victim called police and told the dispatcher that her “baby’s father shot her boyfriend.”

Alexandria Police are investigating a person of interest after Sunday night’s shooting near Holmes Run put a man in the hospital with multiple injuries.

The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. near an apartment complex in the 4600 block of Duke Street, according to police. A 22-year-old man was shot and suffered “multiple injuries” and is expected to recover.

Two Manassas men arrested in November for allegedly stealing air bags in Arlington are also suspected of committing 11 similar acts in Alexandria, according to police.

The 43-year-old and 25-year-old suspects were arrested on Nov. 13 in Arlington and charged in connection with three airbag thefts committed that day. The suspects are also accused of 11 similar incidents in Alexandria between Aug. 25 and Oct. 31, 2022, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

A West End property rendered uninhabitable by a fire more than 10 years ago could finally see redevelopment into a new townhouse development — and Covid might have played a role.

The Planning Commission (item 8) unanimously recommended approval for 6336 Stevenson Avenue, which one commissioner called “the most blighted property in the West End.”

No one was injured after a man with a knife robbed another man of cash in the West End on Dec. 22, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The incident occurred at around 10 p.m. around apartment complexes in the 5700 block of Merton Court. The area is near the intersection with N. Beauregard Street and the Winker Botanical Preserve.

A police investigation of a shooting early this morning in the West End has turned to a “suspicious death” investigation.

The Alexandria Police Department said the initial call for service was this morning (Wednesday) at 5:35 a.m. in the 5500 block of Ascot Court.

(Updated at 1 p.m.) The first set of buildings in the West End project — the start of a massive redevelopment of what was Landmark Mall — were approved at a City Council meeting this weekend.

Developer Foulger-Pratt won the unanimous approval of four blocks of the sprawling development, consisting of residential, commercial and medical offices.

After a lengthy trial, a hung jury couldn’t reach a verdict against a 24-year-old California man accused of murdering a man in the West End in 2020, and the Commonwealth’s Attorney will retry the case in February.

On Thursday (Dec. 15), the jury remained deadlocked on whether Ahmed Mohammed Shareef should be charged with murder or manslaughter in the Nov. 2020 shooting death of 23-year old Yousef Omar. The jury did, however, find Shareef guilty of racketeering with 20 others for operating a drug trafficking organization between the D.C. Metro area and Los Angeles, California.

A Washington, D.C. man is in custody after an armed carjacking and eluding police in Alexandria’s West End on Friday morning (Dec. 16).

The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. in the 500 block of S. Van Dorn Street in the city’s Landmark area. Police said that the suspect brandished a handgun and that the 29-year-old male victim went to the hospital, but was not injured.

A 16-year-old Alexandria resident was beaten and robbed by six juveniles in the West End on Saturday night (Dec. 10).

The incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m. in the 4700 block of Kenmore Avenue. The victim suffered minor injuries, and told police that the suspects brandished a weapon of some kind and stole personal items.
