(Updated at 4 p.m. on July 9) Alexandria Police are investigating a shots fired incident in the Braddock neighborhood last night that left a man hospitalized.

The incident occurred sometime after 9 p.m. last night (Tuesday). Police said a man was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An alleged carjacking that turned fatal last Friday derailed that week’s Top Stories post, but the weekly roundup returns.

That carjacking, unsurprisingly, was the top story of this past week.  Jordan Poteat, an 18-year old from Maryland, was killed by the driver of the vehicle. Another alleged carjacker, 18-year-old Mikell Morris, was injured and arrested, and two juvenile males, both 15 years of age, were also arrested and charged with carjacking. Poteat’s mother told local news stations that her son didn’t deserve to die, regardless of his alleged crime.

(Updated 11:30 a.m.) Three arrests have been made in an attempting carjacking in Potomac Yard on Friday that left one dead and another injured.

Police said that Jordan Poteat, an 18-year-old non-city resident, was shot and killed in the incident. Police initially said they believed the car owner shot the carjackers, though later claimed the investigation was ongoing.

The shooting happened during a suspected robbery just after 1 a.m. behind the shopping center in the 600 block of South Pickett Street in the Landmark area.

Three men are facing years behind bars for the January shooting in a West End 7-Eleven parking lot that left a bystander shot in the neck.

On March 14, the Alexandria Grand Jury charged city residents Maurice Turner, 18, and Donovan Copeland, 20, and Fairfax County resident Damonte Martin, 21, with three felonies: malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle.

A 20-year-old Alexandria man is being held without bond after allegedly shooting a woman in the face in the stairwell of a Landmark area apartment building.

The incident occurred on February 9 at around 4:45 p.m. at the Brent Place apartments at 375 S. Reynolds Street. Terrell Talley, who lives in the building, was arrested March 3 and charged with malicious wounding.

Three men are in custody after allegedly shooting handguns at a parked vehicle in the West End and wounding a bystander on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 9).

The incident occurred at around 3:20 p.m. in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven convenience store at 30 S. South Reynolds Street. The Alexandria Police Department reported that two of the suspect left the store, got into a parked car and then fired shots at another car in the parking lot.

Alexandria police are investigating after a woman was shot Sunday afternoon in the area of the 7-Eleven on South Reynolds Street at Duke Street.

Police acknowledged the shooting incident but have not yet commented on specifics. Initial details from witness reports and radio traffic suggest that the female victim had been struck by stray gunfire when gunmen opened fire around 3:20 p.m.

According to a press release, there is no threat to public safety and this is being investigated as an isolated incident.”

Police are investigating a shots fired call at the northern end of the Braddock neighborhood.

Police closed off First Street between Fayette Street and Route 1 this morning around 8 a.m., but reopened it not long after.
