Public uproar over Sunday’s flooding spilled out throughout this week, which continued to be threatened by near-daily flash flood advisories from the National Weather Service.

A 31-year-old Prince George’s County man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a crash that seriously injured his female companion in the West End.
The suspect was arrested and released on Saturday, July 3. The crash occurred at around 1:20 a.m. that morning in the area of N. Quaker Lane. His four-door white 2017 BMW 540i traveled at a high rate of speed and rear-ended a vehicle waiting for a light to change, police reported in a search warrant.
A 26-year-old Alexandria man was arrested earlier this month for brandishing a firearm and domestic assault and battery.
The suspect was arrested at his job, a restaurant on the waterfront in Old Town on August 3. He was released the next day on bond.

New Census data shows surge of Latino residents — “The last 10 years have marked a dramatic shift in the demographic makeup of the United States, with a marked shrinkage of the white population and the rapid growth of the Hispanic/Latino community, according to 2020 Census data. These changes were reflected in the City of Alexandria, where the share of the white population decreased by 3,001 people (-3.5 percent) since 2010, while the Hispanic/Latino population grew by 6,848 people (30.4 percent). The Asian population grew by 2,922 people (34.7 percent), and Black/African American population grew by 1,412 (4.6 percent).” [Patch]
A 33-year-old Alexandria man was arrested Saturday afternoon (August 14) after a barricade situation in a Landmark area apartment.
Alhaji Kamara was arrested for threatening law enforcement, and is being held on an emergency custody order at Inova Alexandria Hospital, according to Alexandria Police.

What a hot week in Alexandria. Here is the rundown.
Our top story this week was on the five men arrested after shots were fired in Old Town last month. There were quite a few crime incidents to report on, in fact, including a man who was arrested in the Landmark area after shooting his cat and a man arrested for selling marijuana and illegally possessing a gun.
A 26-year-old Alexandria man is being held without bond for gun possession and selling marijuana in the West End.
On June 29, Alexandria Police conducted a search of suspect’s apartment in the 5400 block of Roanoke Avenue after a weapons offense, according to a search warrant. They found a gun, and also 3.7 pounds of marijuana in plastic bags, two digital scales and $4,200 in cash.

What a challenging week in Alexandria. Here’s the rundown.
Alexandria track star Noah Lyles won the bronze medal in the 200 meters at the Tokyo Olympics, garnering congratulations from around the country, including locally by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and Mayor Justin Wilson. Also this week, Lyles’ mom and brother held a watch party at his alma mater, Alexandria City High School.
Five Alexandria men have been arrested and charged with attempted felonious assault by mob after a shots fired incident in Old Town North on July 21.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at around 6:35 p.m. in the 800 block of N. Henry Street in the Parker-Gray neighborhood. Multiple buildings were struck during the incident.
