After more than 40 years as a cold case, charges were brought against a 63-year-old Maryland man for the rape and murder of a woman with strong ties to Alexandria.

Vickie Lynn Belk was 28 years old when she was found murdered in Charles County, Maryland, on August 29, 1979. The mother of a seven-year-old boy was raped and fatally shot and her case lingered for decades until last November, when a DNA match was made with 63-year-old Andre Taylor, who lived four miles from where Belk’s body was recovered at the time of her death.

A 28-year old Alexandria man suffered non-life threatening injuries after a robbery at a high rise apartment building in the West End early Monday night.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Edsall Road. One suspect is in custody and the other remains at large. The suspect in custody lives in the apartment building and was positively identified by the victim, according to dispatch reports.

A woman was allegedly punched in the face and robbed of her phone in the West End on Sunday night.

The incident occurred at around 11:45 p.m. in the 300 block of S. Reynolds Street. The 37-year-old victim was approached by three males and a female, got punched and was then robbed of her phone, according to dispatch reports.

Two male juveniles were arrested after an armed robbery on the bike trail between the King St. and Braddock Road Metro stations on Saturday night.

No one was injured in the incident at Metro Linear Park, which occurred at around 11 p.m., according to dispatch reports.

A 22-year-old Maryland man has been charged with the murders of an Alexandria man in 2022 and a Bristow man in 2021, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

On July 10, police arrested Corde Fitzhugh-Clingman, of Hyattsville, and charged him with two counts of first degree murder while armed for the 2022 death of 26-year-old Zekariya Elmi, of Alexandria, and the 2021 death of 24 year-old Muntsier Sharfi, of Bristow.

(Updated 7/14) More details have been released regarding last month’s shooting of a 30-year-old woman in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.

The woman was severely injured when she was allegedly shot in the leg by the 45-year-old father of her child, who afterward drove her to Inova Alexandria Hospital and wheeled her into the emergency room in a wheelchair, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

A 32-year-old Maryland man was arrested last month for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of steel from a company he contracts with in Potomac Yard.

On June 6, Management of a construction lot located in the 2700 block of Potomac Avenue was alerted of the theft of between $10,800 and $21,600 worth of H-pile beams, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

Alexandria Police are investigating the theft of more than $500 worth of items from a CVS store near Potomac Yard on Saturday night.

At around 5:30 p.m., a man wearing a red shirt and black pants and carrying a black backpack allegedly put the items in a garbage bag and walked out of the store at at 2601 Richmond Highway, which is near the intersection with Swann Avenue.

The male victim was robbed at gunpoint of his black 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG at around 4:30 a.m. outside the 24-hour gym X-Sport Fitness at 4300 King Street. The area is near the intersection with Park Center Drive.

A 56-year-old man was shot multiple times last night a block away from the Braddock Road Metro station, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The victim was shot in the back multiple times at around 11:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Madison Street, according to scanner traffic. The victim was transported to the hospital and his condition is unknown.
