The Alexandria Police Department (APD) has charged Alexandria resident Bisrat Shaga, 35, with first-degree murder after stabbing a man in a fatal Del Ray church stabbing last month.
Shaga reportedly killed Centreville resident Emmanuel Negatu, 38, in the One God In Christ Apostolic Church (2707 Dewitt Avenue) on Nov. 12
The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the theft of an ATM stolen from the 7-Eleven at 6120 Lincolnia Road in the West End early yesterday morning.
APD was notified of a hold-up alarm in the store at around 2:30 a.m. A store employee called police and said that four male suspects entered the store, that employees were told to keep their heads down, and that the suspect fled in a vehicle, according to the police scanner.
(Updated 10 p.m.) The Alexandria Police Department is investigating two reports of gunshots over the weekend in the Seminary Valley neighborhood.
No injuries were reported from both incidents. The first occurred on Friday night (Dec. 8) at around 10:15 p.m. when an APD officer reported shots fired in the 5300 block of Taney Avenue. The officer chased two suspects on foot, but both eluded her by running through a neighborhood of townhomes, according to scanner traffic.
No one was injured after gunfire was reported in Arlandria late Tuesday night, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
At around 11 p.m., APD was notified about a loud argument between a man and a woman in the 800 block of W. Glebe, and the caller said that the man wore a red jacket, pulled out a handgun, fired it into the air and that the woman then screamed, according to the APD scanner.
(Updated 11:10 a.m.) Police arrested the driver of a stolen vehicle after the suspect ditched the car, ran from police, and ultimately turned to public transit.
Scanner traffic showed that, around 8:30 a.m., police followed the driver into a parking lot when the driver bailed out of the car and ran. Police searched along N. Ripley and Duke Streets, but Alexandria Police Department Communications Manager Tracy Walker told ALXnow that the suspect was able to get on a DASH bus and flee the scene.
A 48-year-old Alexandria man was charged last month with illegally discharging a firearm in his back yard in the Potomac West neighborhood of Alexandria.
The incident allegedly occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at around 9:45 p.m. in the 200 block of Aspen Street, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.
(Updated at 2:21 p.m. on Dec. 6) The Alexandria Police Department says that an arrest was made after a man was injured in an attempted robbery in the Landmark area of Alexandria’s West End last week.
APD responded to an apartment building at 375 S. Reynolds Street at around 2 p.m. on Nov. 29 in response to a report that a man was shot, according to a department release. Police later determined that no weapon was used, and that the victim was assaulted and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The Alexandria Police Department arrested four teens for a robbery and assault at the Bradlee Shopping Center (3646 King Street) last month.
The victim, also a teenager, was bleeding from the face after being punched near the McDonald’s around 8:40 a.m., according to scanner traffic. The victim told police the suspect took his shoes and wallet. The victim was transported to the hospital.
