Nighttime temperatures may be hitting the freezing mark, but that hasn’t stopped Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams from opening at 102 S. Patrick Street in Old Town.

The restaurant opened this past Wednesday (Nov. 13) in the former Misha’s Coffee space, while the coffee shop has moved down the block to 907 King Street.

ALX Community, a coworking space not associated with widely-beloved local news site ALXnow, is planning to launch its new waterfront office tomorrow (Thursday).

The 25,000 square-foot space is set to open tomorrow, with all hands on deck currently applying the final touches to the office. The office is expected to be at capacity when it opens.

If all goes well, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will be opening in about three weeks.

The new ice cream shop is replacing Misha’s Coffee at 102 S. Patrick Street, with Misha’s moving earlier this year to 907 King Street. A manager at the site said Jeni’s plans to open by Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Virginia’s first Patagonia flagship store is set to replace the vacant Old Town Theater this coming spring.

“We’re thrilled to be in Old Town, and we look forward to opening our doors in spring 2020,” Patagonia spokesperson Corley Kenna told ALXnow.

(Updated at 5 p.m.) There’s no official word yet, but multiple sources have told ALXnow that British clothing and accessories retailer FatFace is looking at moving into the former Old Town Trading Post at 128 King Street.

A local commercial real estate source told ALXnow that FatFace is looking at moving into the location. Another source said FatFace was considering a lease but may not have signed one yet.

‘Say Yes’ Star Opening Alexandria Salon — “The star of ‘Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta,’ Monte Durham, plans to open a hair salon in Old Town Alexandria, he announced this week. Durham, a resident of Alexandria, plans to call the salon ‘Monte.’ No word yet on an opening date.” [Alexandria Living]

APD Investigates Weekend Crashes — Alexandra police investigated a number of crashes over the weekend, including on the ramp to Telegraph Road from eastbound Duke Street, the intersection of North Beauregard Street and Seminary Road, the intersection of North Patrick Street and Madison Street, and the 500 block of North Columbus Street.

Getting your nails done can be a time-consuming experience, so the newly opened Cavalry Nail Bar at 4104 Mount Vernon Avenue lets you sip wine as you’re getting your nails done.

Technically, manager Aivy Ho said you could also order beer, but so far the orders have been exclusively for wine. Customers seem to be responding positively to the new business.

As Alexandria struggles with affordable daycare, a new facility is in the works near the Fairlington neighborhood.

A special use permit has been filed for Our First Step Daycare Center, a new daycare center planned for 2500 N. Van Dorn Street. The facility is planned by Liz Villa, who currently runs Little Rising Stars Daycare Center in Falls Church.
