Port City Brewing Company is doing something special this weekend for its 15th anniversary.

The brewery and tasting room at 3950 Wheeler Avenue will host a two-day release party for its new Golden Rum Barrel-Aged Colossal Anniversary Ale, with “familiar notes of toffee, dried dark fruit, and subtle hop balance paired perfectively with the sweet vanilla, coconut, honey, and molasses flavors of the rum.”

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the Alexandria Health Department is partnering with a dozen local businesses to offer discounts customers who book a sexual or reproductive health appointment this month.

AHD is offering 5% “Cupid Coupons,” valid for up to $10 off at 12 local businesses to customers who book the appointments during the February Love Safely and Save promotion.

After experiencing catastrophic flooding earlier this month, Crooked Beat Records will close its doors for good this Saturday.

The local vinyl haven plans to open for its last days at 2417 Mount Vernon Avenue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Owner Bill Daly said the building’s management wants to do additional repair work, which would require him and his staff to remove all of Crooked Beat’s inventory and then move it back in.

Matt and Tony’s All Day Kitchen + Bar just made the rankings, coming in at No. 100 out of the 100 spots featured.

A new “passport”-inspired promotion will encourage Alexandria residents to shop locally along the Duke Street corridor.

The City of Alexandria is planning a Duke Street Business Passport Program for businesses within a half-mile of Duke Street. The upcoming program would track shoppers’ passport progress with QR codes and award $25 gift certificates to five participants who visit the most passport businesses.

People seeking warmth after this weekend’s impending winter storm can find solace in the slow-cooked curries of a new Indian restaurant opening soon in Eisenhower East.

The Mumbai-inspired Bombay Canteen is planning to “soft open” at 2010 Eisenhower Avenue on Monday, Feb. 2, a spokesperson told ALXnow. An official grand opening is planned for Sunday, Feb. 8.

Celebrations are in order this week for a stretch therapy center that recently relocated to a larger space in the West End.

Movement in Science has moved to Suite 228 at 50 S. Pickett Street, a little under a mile from its previous location 648 S. Pickett Street. The business has planned a “Wellness Open House” from 9-11 a.m. Thursday and a ribbon cutting on Friday.

A new six-week series of comedy shows with local comedians is launching tonight at Vola’s Dockside Grill in Old Town.

The Best of DC Comedy Show will be held at 101 N. Union Street every Thursday night between now and Feb. 19, from 6-8:30 p.m. Tonight’s show (Thursday) is sold out, but $25 tickets are available for upcoming shows.

Over $5,000 has been fundraised for Crooked Beat Records less than a day after the flooded Del Ray business published fundraisers on social media to support its restoration.

A GoFundMe and merchandise fundraiser have quickly garnered more than $5,300 for the vinyl shop, after a burst pipe incident flooded it with several inches of water over the weekend. As of yesterday (Tuesday), water had continued to enter the shop but crews were working to address damage, according to a Facebook video by owner Bill Daly.

Dozens of boutiques in Old Town will offer serious markdowns next month as part of the 22nd annual Alexandria Warehouse Sale.

Some 45 participating shops will offer discounts ranging from 60% to 80% off from Saturday, Feb. 7  to Sunday, Feb. 8. Unlike previous years, the sale won’t be held in the Westin Alexandria, but in storefronts, pop-up tents and open retail spaces along King Street and select side streets, according to an event listing by the Old Town Boutique Community.

The hand-painted designs of Del Ray-based Ella Bella will soon be in the hands of people from around Virginia attending Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger’s inauguration market.

Ella Bella Flourish Fearlessly is one of two businesses from the D.C. area invited to participate in the Made in Virginia Market in Richmond on Friday, along with Occoquan’s Hello Jackson Home Fragrance Co. Spanberger will make remarks at the market to kick off a weekend of inauguration festivities.
