The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Alexandria and surrounding areas through 9 p.m. Wednesday as thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall are expected to move through the region.
The watch, issued at 11:57 a.m., covers Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax County and parts of the District of Columbia and Maryland, including Anne Arundel, Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.
Expect the Heat Index temperature reaching 106 degrees and excessive rainfall today in Alexandria.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 1 to 7 p.m., and a Flood Watch for Alexandria and the surrounding area from 2 p.m. to midnight.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Alexandria and the surrounding area.
The watch is in effect from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., as a large storm with 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts has been reported in Centreville and is moving northeast.
Be ready for some wet weather, because the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Alexandria and the surrounding area from 1 to 11 p.m.
At 1 p.m., the weather service also issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch that is in effect until 9 p.m. The NWS stated that flash flooding, caused by excessive rainfall, is possible.
The heatwave continues, as the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory and flood watch for Alexandria.
Heat index values of up to 107 degrees are expected in the region, and the advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. The NWS has also issued a Flood Watch, which will be in effect from 3 p.m. into the evening.
A Flash Flood Warning is in effect in Alexandria and the surrounding area until midnight.
The National Weather Service anticipates a burst of between one-and-three inches of rainfall an hour.
Alexandria is currently under an Areal Flood Watch and a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.
The Areal Flood Watch is in effect until midnight tonight and warns of possible flash flooding in areas near rivers or other low-lying locations.
This afternoon could see several rounds of rain showers and thunderstorms — enough that the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Alexandria and neighboring localities.
Alexandria, along with Fairfax, Arlington and other part of the region, are under a Flood Watch scheduled to start at noon today and continue through this evening.
