Gelato is a playful puppy who enjoys hanging out with other dogs, but the puppy also faces an incurable medical condition that means he likely only has months to live.

It’s a tall ask for any family to adopt a pet knowing that their time with the dog will be brief, but Gina Hardter, director of marketing and communications at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA), said the shelter was flooded with calls from locals offering to give Gelato the home he deserves — however briefly. Now Gelato has found his new family.

Avis is full of energy, and looking for a new yard to run around in. The two-year-old female hound mix is up for adoption with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

“Avis gets so excited when she sees her human friends that she can’t stop her tail from wagging,” AWLA spokesperson Gina Hardter said. “Avis thinks anywhere is appropriate for snuggling, from the yard to her bed.”

Mars has lived at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria for four months without being adopted.

The three–year-old fawn-colored terrier mix has expressive eyes and a tail that doesn’t stop wagging when he’s in the company of his favorite people, AWLA told ALXnow.
