What a week it’s been in Alexandria.
Our top story this week was the report that Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Gregory Hutchings, Jr. sends one of his children to Bishop Ireton High School. In case you missed it, the story first broke in Theogony, the T.C. Williams High School newspaper.
With Halloween around the corner, this week’s Pet Pick from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is Spooky.
“At seven months old, this black lab mix is a bundle of energy who is looking for someone who is ready to match his rambunctious attitude,” said Gina Hardter, spokesperson for the AWLA. “Spooky is still young and could be very interested in training to help him grow into a polite adult dog while stimulating him mentally and physically.”
If you’re looking for a place to unwind with your pooch, Brewski’s Barkhaus is opening on Saturday, October 17.
The D.C. Metro area’s first-ever dog-friendly bar and restaurant with an off-leash indoor and outdoor dog park will open its doors at 529 E. Howell Avenue. The location along Richmond Highway in Del Ray is the former home of Flat Top Burger, and its redevelopment has been in the works for more than six months.

The two-year-old mastiff is a large dog currently looking for a new home in the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA).
“At over 100 pounds, Bruce is the largest animal currently at the AWLA,” said Gina Hardter, spokesperson for the AWLA. “But he’s so sweet, we think at least 25 pounds of that must be his big heart. Check out how he dwarfs the kiddie pool!”
