Southern Towers Residents Prepared to Strike Over Rent — “Their goal is 1,000 signatures from the 2,300 total units. They want management to cancel rent until one month after the pandemic ends, address safety and cleaning concerns, and create a sliding scale for future rent payments based on income.” [WAMU]

Less Than Half of Alexandrians Will Get Full Stimulus Checks — “SmartAsset estimates that full stimulus check would go to just 49.57% of households in the City of Alexandria, and 65.92% would get some level of stimulus check. The full check of $1,200 would be sent to individuals with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of up to $75,000 and a reduced benefit would be sent to individuals earning up to $99,000, at which point it phases out completely.” [Alexandria Living]

Many businesses are offering contact-less service, delivering goods from door-to-door, and providing workouts and other services online for customers who would otherwise have to venture from home.

New Restaurant-Slash-Dog Park to Replace Flat Top Burger

Move over Mount Purrnon Cat Cafe, there’s a new pet-themed restaurant in town.

Brewski’s Barkhaus — at 529 E. Howell Avenue, along Richmond Highway near Del Ray — is envisioned as a restaurant and dog park. It will be replacing the Flat Top Burger restaurant that closed last year.

Gina Hardter, spokeswoman for the AWLA, said Kay is beloved at the shelter for her silly side, though she is looking for a home with adults.

“She’s a complete goofball who is as happy on a hike as bouncing around the yard, hanging out with other pups, playing with her toys or just enjoying a quiet night in with her favorite people,” Hardter said.

Young Pitbull Up for Adoption Wants a Snuggle Buddy for Valentine’s Day

He is up for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (4101 Eisenhower Avenue). Gina Hardter, the spokesperson for the AWLA, said Franklin is an intelligent dog who can sit and shake among his tricks.

“He’ll show off his special ‘Smile’ for a treat,” Hardter said. “He’s a big cuddler, and he’s happy to show all his new friends that any lap is just the right size for him.”

Pitbull with Perfect Puppy Pout Pining for Pick-Up from Pound

Cocoa is a three-year-old brown and white pitbull who — like Sugar — works as an “office dog” at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) at 4101 Eisenhower Avenue.

A two-year-old pitbull named Sugar — “as sweet as her name implies” — is looking for a new home after deciding to move on from her clerical career.

Sugar has experience working in the front desk of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) at 4101 Eisenhower Avenue, where she is currently awaiting a new family.

Alexandria Cocker Spaniel ‘Solo’ is Ready to Pair Up

An elderly, golden-haired cocker spaniel named Solo is, ironically, looking for some companionship.

The 10-year old spaniel at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (4101 Eisenhower Avenue) has a number of tricks he’s been showing off in foster care — like sit, stay, down and come — but also has a more specialized ability to find treats hidden around a room on command.
