Seven-year-old Reno moved to Alexandria from Florida, so the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria’s pet of the week might not know what to expect from cold winters.

The black Labrador retriever mix is currently in a foster home, and all of his adoption fees have been paid by a generous donor, according to AWLA spokesperson Gina Hardter.

Elderly resident rescues dog walker pinned under 500-pound headstone — “When Suzanne Dalton went out to walk her dog in Bethel Cemetery… one fall afternoon, the last thing she expected was to have a literal brush with death. Tank always makes sure to put his toys away after he finishes with playtime, and the three-year-old Pit Bull Terrier is also looking for a new home through the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

“Tank’s favorite place to be is in his cozy bed full of blankets and toys,” said AWLA spokeswoman Audrey Alessi. “He’s looking for a best friend who can relate!”

With Halloween around the corner, this week’s Pet Pick from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is Spooky.

“At seven months old, this black lab mix is a bundle of energy who is looking for someone who is ready to match his rambunctious attitude,” said Gina Hardter, spokesperson for the AWLA. “Spooky is still young and could be very interested in training to help him grow into a polite adult dog while stimulating him mentally and physically.”

If you’re looking for a place to unwind with your pooch, Brewski’s Barkhaus is opening on Saturday, October 17.

The D.C. Metro area’s first-ever dog-friendly bar and restaurant with an off-leash indoor and outdoor dog park will open its doors at 529 E. Howell Avenue. The location along Richmond Highway in Del Ray is the former home of Flat Top Burger, and its redevelopment has been in the works for more than six months.
