A man was shot to death Saturday night (April 19) in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Alexandria’s West End.

The Alexandria Police Department found an adult male with a light pulse and suffering from two gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Canterbury Square apartment complex near Holmes Run and Duke Street at around 10:15 p.m, according to the police scanner.

Alexandria’s Independent Community Policing Review Board unanimously opposes proposed changes to its authority to investigate allegations of police misconduct.

Earlier this month, the board opposed ordinance changes reducing its subpoena power, as well as a proposal to let the City Council act as a final arbiter on whether cases are investigated in the event of an impasse between the Board and the Independent Policing Auditor. The changes were drawn up by a subcommittee, which includes Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley and Council Member Canek Aguirre.

The 19-year-old victim of Wednesday night’s (April 16) hit-and-run on King Street has succumbed to his injuries.

The Alexandria Police Department has identified the victim as Abdullahi Mumin and said that he succumbed to his injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Mumin was struck near the intersection of King Street and Dawes Avenue, at around 8:40 p.m.

A bicyclist was struck and injured by a vehicle on Wednesday morning (April 9), and the Alexandria Police Department is asking for witnesses to come forward.

The incident occurred at around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Eisenhower Avenue and Metro Road near the Van Dorn Metro Station. The victim was struck by a Mazda CR-V and suffered a non-life-threatening facial injury, according to police.

A 44-year-old Alexandria man awaiting trial in Arlington for indecent exposure and simulated masturbation is now being held without bond for allegedly committing similar offenses in Alexandria.

On February 27, a customer at a bar in the 700 block of King Street in Old Town reportedly noticed that a man at the bar with a baseball cap and gray hoodie pulled his penis out of his pants and was masturbating. According to a recently released search warrant affidavit, the customer took a video of the incident and reported it to employees.
